I use this all the time for steaks, pork chops, sausages, hamburgers, and many other things. It also has a griddle surface you can use for pancakes and eggs. I have had mine for about 8 years now and it is one of the most used appliances in my kitchen.
I have had a KitchenAid mixer for over 10 years now and would never go back to another brand. This mixer uses an orbital motion rather than the dual spinning blades most others use. It comes with a whisk, mixing blade, and dough hook so it can be used for many different duties. The whisk makes the best whipped mashed potatoes ever. There are also lots of other attachments you can buy to go with this mixer including a full set of food processor blades. I use this to make slaw and it does the quickest and best shredded cabbage you can imagine.
This is the best thing for roasting turkey, ham, and chicken. Sure you can use the regular oven, but this doesn't heat up the house as much and leaves the oven free for baking other things.
There isn't anything more Southern than deep fried food, and this will make frying much easier. It stores the oil for you between frying and has a filter to keep the smells contained. Just remember if you fry fish you will want to keep that oil separate as it will take on a fishy flavor that can get into the next item fried. This particular model is billed as easy clean and comes with a container to filter the oil into for storage when cleaning.
You can't beat a crock pot for stews and other slow cooked meals. It is also great for keeping things warm for serving as well.
If you just want to heat up water quick for some tea, hot chocolate, or an instant food, this is much faster then using the stove and doesn't heat up your kitchen. I like the Cuisinart one because it has that nice looking classic tea kettle shape.
