      Sugar Cookies      

1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tablespoon milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cup sifted plain flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt

Cream butter then beat in sugar, egg, milk, and vanilla. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt into butter mixture. Mix well, cover, and refridgerate for at least 4 hours. If you want to make decorated cookies, you can then roll the dough on a floured board and cut with cookie cutters, place on a lightly greased cookie sheet, and decorate with colored sugar. If you just want plain cookies, roll into small balls, place on a lightly greased cookie sheet, and flatten the top of each with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar. Bake 8-10 minutes at 375 degrees. Cookies will come out soft and harden as they cool, so don't over bake.

I usually make these for Christmas, cut into various holiday shapes and decorated.
