    Spiced Apple Cider    


I always serve this at Christmas and it is a big hit.

1 gallon apple juice or cider
1 cup sugar
6 cinnamon sticks
2 tablespoons whole cloves
1 teaspoon lemon zest
2 teaspoon orange zest

Put the spices and zests in a small cloth bag or tie them in a square of cloth. Put the sugar and spice bag in a crockpot and fill with apple juice and stir will. Cook on high for at least 2 hours or low for 4 hours so the spices can steep into the juice. Serve hot. If all the juice didn't fit the first time, just add it in when the crock gets low enough for it to fit. You can refill this at least once before the spices start to get weak.

For an alternate look that is festive but a bit of trouble, instead of orange zest stud a whole orange with the cloves and float it in the juice while cooking. Then you don't need the bag as the cinnamon sticks and lemon zest can just be added to the juice without it.
