These fried bread nuggets are traditionally served with seafood and are great with fried fish or shrimp. Try dipping them in the cocktail sauce for seafood. Heavenly!
2 cups corn meal
2 tablespoons flour (all purpose)
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
1 cup buttermilk
Mix dry ingredients by sifting together. Add onion, milk and beaten egg. Drop by spoonfuls into hot deep fat and cook until golden brown. Gives them an extra special flavor if you can use oil that fish has been fried in.
